Calling for input on Government BPM software

It may not be obvious but we have launched a monthly series of industry-specific business process management (BPM) articles highlighting the different BPM software approaches taken in different industries and hopefully highlighting what real users are doing.

What's hot, what's not? Why did we do it that way? Why generic BPM vs industry specific or vice versa? Why BPM vs. ERP and so forth? Those are some of the questions we would like to answer?

Next up is BPM in Government. State, local, federal--all are welcome. Provincial, burg, ville, canton--open source or closed--all are welcome. If you sell such a product, I will email you the survey instrument if you will simply send me an email at dennis@ebizq.net. If you would prefer to be interviewed, put that in the email and we can set up a time. If you are an IT guy or BPM expert--an employee or consultant--implementing such a project in or for a government entity, send me an email and I will contact you. This blog post on If BPM is the new ERP... hopefully explains where I am going with this line of research.

The article on BPM in Government is tentatively scheduled for release in October 2008. It will be a hybrid of recenty ebizQ articles such as this one on BPM as "What Real Users think..." and this just posted ebizQ feature article on "BPM Goes Wide and Deep in Insurance".

Your company’s product(s) or projects may be mentioned based on my secondary research but if you would like to formally participate, contact me by Monday October 13, 2008 at dennis@ebizq.net.

I am very interested to see the results of this report. I know of a number of governments (small and large) who have been testing and newly implementing BPM software. My city implemented BPM software but had trouble with it - it was not based on an SOA and as a result the IT systems were not seamless. This posed large problems when changes to business process took place.

From what I understand, the city switched to a relatively new product call Enterprise Process Center, and they have been very successful with the implementation and use of the product. I found the website useful myself, with short videos and case studies that highlight the uses of BPM and the up and coming trends.
